Two things I'd like to highlight regarding G+ photos:
My Dad had the same sentiment about Picasa but once I showed him how to select/deselect the folders that Picasa will monitor and pull pictures from, he became a daily user of the software.

You mean how it tells you its updating and talks to you. Yeah that can get annoying. I just put it in Silent/gaming mode. Still does it's job and no longer bothers me.
