I’m sure he’s a good coach. But...

And yet they had a payroll in the middle, boosted by several dumb contracts.

The owners are operating within the rules and the players have a union that needs to do a better job of negotiating. They should be working towards a minimum percentage of revenue that the owners must pay out in salaries. Trying real hard to avoid a cap is stupid if you don’t think about setting a floor.

wait, did you drink from the bidet?

Shouldn’t this be posted on Splinter?

I stopped reading and started skimming at some point because I like your writing but I don’t like the NBA and, well, it was long. Anyway, you last idea is a good one. Get rid of the 3 point line. Also, contract the league to 20 teams playing 45 games each.

You really should acknowledge that Harper has/had a 10 year, $300M offer from the Nationals that he didn’t accept. Boo hoo that he didn’t get 30 teams bidding for him but just sign the contract, buddy.

ha, yeah, i can relate. see, my wife has literally never logged into the checking account or any of the credit cards accounts or her own 401k and can’t be bothered to stick to a budget or control her spending or anything like that because i’m “better at that stuff”. i guess a lot of us have lazy spouses in a variety

These kids seem 100% awful. I can’t find any redeeming qualities. I still can’t figure out why the Native American guy decided to wander up and beat a drum in their faces though. I’m not out of bounds thinking that’s annoying as hell, right?

Again, they have a union. Bargain for a salary floor. And I think it’s a stretch to say most of those other things cost peanuts. It’s not just minor league salaries (which probably are peanuts.) It’s facilities and travel and scouts and coaches and all sorts of other shit.

Hasn’t the players’ share of net revenue stayed very constant though, at around 50%? Which is very similar to the other three major sports. I’m pretty sure that spending on minor leagues, international development, player development, analytics, etc are soaking up a lot of the gross revenue growth.

The only thing wrong with American basketball players is that they’re stuck playing an absurdly long schedule with too many teams for the amount of talent in the league. Go to 20 teams, 45 games. Watching half the league tank and the other half coast through 82 games is ridiculous.

I think this dramatically oversimplifies it. I’ve read that they only prepare about 40 plays a game. So it’s not a matter of showing up on Sunday and calling a different play. It’s running an entire week of practices and meetings around a different game plan, and deciding which of these new plays are the best fit

I have two boys, one of whom would much rather have the Pony. That’s all good with us, but I feel bad for him when they ask “boy or girl” at McDonalds. People are acting like lawmakers have bigger fish to fry and they probably do, but I’d welcome this.

See one difference between Tumblr and Benadryl is that you pay for Benadryl. The people mad that a free website wronged them are great. (For anything unrelated to data breaches and privacy issues, obviously.)

Spin class has been a revelation this year. I hate to run but 45 or 60 min spin classes are challenging and keep my interest.

Why do you need a license to run a rental car company?

I’m a Caps fan and I think this is right. He deserved the penalty just like he would if he hit Oshie accidentally with a high stick. You need to control your body, etc. and he did make contact with the head. But it wasn’t malicious and he shouldn’t get any additional discipline.

Ranking Jersey Shore towns is like ranking CFL QBs. Ocean City, MD FTW.
