Dan from IT is a greater ally than you might know. Obama was the Black president first and foremost. But he was also a Nerd president, and Donald Glover and NdGT will back that up. And after the long dark years of the Bush administration, he became a hero to my fellow nerds as well.

Yes, the nerd world is overrun with

Anyone can see the road that they walk on
Is paved in gold
And it’s always summer
They’ll never get cold
They’ll never get hungry
They’ll never get old and grey
You can see their shadows wandering off somewhere
They won’t make it home
But they really don’t care
They wanted the highway
They’re happier there

Needle buried into the rev limiter. Transmission gears reduced to a pile of loose bearings. Live the dream.

Why the hell did anybody on Uber’s board think that the CEOs of GE or HP would leave those jobs to take over at Uber? How many millions, hell billions, of Uber’s already burning dollars would that take?
That’d be like TigerDirect trying to hire Steve Ballmer.

I spent a minute flipping between the four different versions listed on Wikipedia wondering what the difference was between them, all details having fallen from my mind in the seconds it took to switch between them.

This kind of story makes me wonder just how many unmolested golden-age Beetles are still out there. Nobody seems to have trouble buying them up as props, and I doubt these ones will be sold back to the public since they’ve been chopped up into camera rigs.

My dream of building a Baja Buggy make me sad that a perfectly

That feature list of Future Car Stuff they “considered” developing is exactly the same stuff I “considered” in a notebook while bored in school. And by the sounds of it, Project Titan devoted about that much real effort to any of those features.

This is what happens when you try to found a product by just headhunting

The best part of the bullshit? Most of the time, you couldn’t use a properly secure password even if you wanted to. Because the NIST guidelines only provide examples of passwords a dozen or so characters long, there’s scads of out-of-the-box webportals that require passwords be no more than 16 characters.

To the credit of police, however hollow it may be, the Suffolk County PD who hosted this speech said thanks but no thanks to roughing up prisoners. Obviously, you’d expect them to say that, but at this point it’s just good to hear them say anything at all.

Uranium, as it turns out. France’s energy grid is almost 100% nuclear.
Edit: WOW I really should have opened the thread first. Look at this nukemind.

Ever heard of survivorship bias?

I never thought of the logic in freezing all the recognizable design pieces and adding the eyes and mouth to the flexible negative space. This is why Pixar makes the big bucks.

This is all the more reason why the world needs a modern Isetta. I heard they stayed popular long after they were obsolete for just this reason of putting teenagers in cars without a license.

“This Judge will lose big. Had no jurisdiction on that matter.”

What about that description do you think is “college-level propaganda”? Even putting aside the obvious disdain for knowing things, what part do you disagree with?

1986 CJ-7 - the oil filter
Maybe this was a quirk particular to my accursed Jeep, but the oil filter can effectively served as a motor mount. Unscrewing it to get it on and ff required using an engine hoist to lift the block off the mounts for clearance.

Early 90s Thunderbird - starter motor

A - Acceptable

There’s a lot of people down here going “what’s the point of this story” or “I’m too lazy to bother typing all of too long / didn’t read” and they are completely missing the point.
This is an outside perspective from a guy who has no concept of car-culture and no reason to. Existentialist weirdness like this alongside

This is buried too far down to get the stars it deserves. This is Comment of the Week material.

Jason: Do you know a good resource for those one-panel displays you wrote about? Google’s top result is your own article from BoingBoing in 2009.
I could probably just make one with some LEDs and Raspberry, but it’d be cool if anyone still supplies these things.
