6 3.5" drives is not exactly a huge filestore... We've got nas heads with 200+ spindles that routinely do over a gigabyte a second. this used to be fiber channel but these days it's 6Gb/s sas with port expanders. 10Gbe lan phy is the most logical competitor to much of what we need for high rate interconnection.

yeah sorry nhtsa says they happen at a fairly steady rate. the demographics of the drivers involved are fairly consistent as well, e.g. the frequency increases with age.
