Well in apple’s defense they took more than a few years before cracking the Japanese market and its also due to the local competitors being complacent in terms of phone design. Before iPhone came to Japan clamshell design was king.

Ms in japan was doomed to fail not because they are not good or not enough exclusives. Its because japan usually shun things made by non japanese countries.
