I kinda feel like the movie gets hate for depicting people from 1997 realistically.

Considering how many people define sex as P in V and that recently I heard some guy say that he didn’t understand how two women can have sex, I wasn’t at all bothered by the question in the movie.

I saw it in ‘97, though rented on VHS. I watched it with a boy-space-friend that I also sometimes made out with and who was pretty goddamn infatuated with me. I was an Amy to him, I guess. I openly dated men and women and was far more experienced than he was. He looked exactly like my first love and was a sweet

Holden is basically a Bernie bro and Banky would hate Hillary and spend like 20 minutes explaining why she’s the devil and then say, “Anyway it doesn’t matter, I didn’t vote.”

You nailed it. Chasing Amy isn’t talking to women. Not even trying. It’s a movie with a very heartfelt message aimed at men. For an ignorant man to understand the lesson, the story has to be told with male vocabulary.

I haven’t seen this movie in a long time, but I have find it weird that no one can say the word bisexual in talking about it. It seems clear to me that Amy is supposed to be bi, or perhaps a lesbian who has had sex with men/had sex with Ben Affleck for whatever reason, but this movie always reminds me how bad we are

I think about this movie all the time.

I understand the resistance to films exploring subjects like sexuality written by straight white men, featuring straight white men, for straight white men... because there have been so many (and a majority of those done poorly). But that doesn’t mean they have no merit and doesn’t mean that they can’t be great.

I also still like this movie, mostly for the nostalgia factor. It did have that sort of “Reality Bites”, canned wannabe progressive feel, even then. But one scene that I really liked and that really felt real to me was when she was describing her new love interest to her lesbian friends and they start freaking out on

LESBIANS, HOW DO THEY WORK

It’s interesting Clover saw it this way, because I always saw the inclusion of Alyssa’s girlfriend in the last scene as a very clear indication that Alyssa and Holden are over. They could have really loved each other, but he was a giant manbaby about her past and she doesn’t trust him to *ever* get over it, so yeah.

I’ve been checking CNN compulsively the past few weeks, just hoping for that red “Breaking News” bulletin across the top of the site... No luck yet, but I keep hoping...

Still waiting to wake up to that particular glorious headline which frees us from this eternal hell.

There’s a large, official stone plaque in the Vatican to the left of the altar with the names of every single Pope going back to St. Peter. Interestingly, Leo X (who caused the reformation) is mysteriously missing...

I’ve been hoping we’d do like the Romans and destroy all evidence of his existence.

Still, as late as January, some of the administration’s top figures were communicating under the radar by maintaining private email accounts

No they won’t.

Forget Garland, it’s about the massive expanse of obstructionism over 6 years.

For McConnell to say with a straight fucking face that the Democrats are being obstructionist is obscene, given what they did to Merrick Garland.
