This. No one believes me when I tell them how insanely well-written the show is. It came on in that deluge of other "rom-com" sitcoms so they just can't mentally separate this one out.

The combination of her talking blithely to him like nothing was going on and him walking away thinking he has nothing to worry about was a punch of devastation followed by a light slap of a reminder that they are both pretty stunted and don't have any sort of roots in their relationship as it currently stands.

… Jim Halpert?

See, I've always thought he was attractive, but I find his features really come through when his facial expressions are serious and/or sincere. Brooklyn 99 gives him way more of that material than anything else he's ever been in, especially with the developments in his character's relationship with Amy.

Haha! Perish the thought!

If only I had gleaned such wisdom from my mother…

Domme, possibly. Bona fide prostitute, no.

Nope.

I legitimately thought that's how it was pronounced for most of my adolescence and early twenties, as I'd only ever read about them and thought the only alternative pronunciation would have to be "Cock" so naturally they would go with "Cotch". And yet… somehow it's "Coke"? On top of that, most people I know with that

My guess is that that's part of the humor - it's like one of those tele-therapists, who do sessions via video chat, and she's driving off into a parking lot somewhere to talk to a therapist in the UK or something. And I don't think she'd assume Jimmy wouldn't approve, it's probably just self-protection - she wouldn't

Or horrible and unforgivable in Gretchen's twisted worldview, thus the sneaking.

My vote is definitely sneaking off to therapy. It'd make way more character/story sense to throw a wrench in their relationship that they'd both have to deal with together and with a modicum of emotional connection than basically reinforce Jimmy's views on relationships and give him an excuse to write her off

Now if only Donald Trump had the face of a microexpressing puppy, maybe that would counterbalance the blech coming out of his word-hole… no? Not likely? Not enough Jimmies in the world, I tell ya…

This tho. He's so good with microexpressions. His face as he's watching the improv team is excellent as well.

"Hold The Line" - Jack + Eliza

I agree, which is why I'm not so down on the lower grade for this one. Not every episode has to have weight to it! I thought Lindsay and Gretchen's storyline could've delved a bit more into the semantics of "good feminism" but that was about my only qualm. Definitely more laugh-out-loud lines for me than any episode

The first thing. He's been in so many things but for some reason every time he pops up I just think "Yay, Outside Dave!" Maybe because it's such a great character name.

The subtlety of the shot in which Jimmy places a coaster under Gretchen's mug and the subtlety with which Jimmy places a coaster under Gretchen's mug were both highly impressive to me. Way to communicate the voluntary-but-inescapable initial tension of cohabitation.
