Spent time coaching kids on a poor reservation. And the Lakers keep him at arm's length, even though he's the greatest player in team history. If that slimy organization doesn't respect you, you must be doing something right.

I grew up in a fundamentalist household and wanted to listen to pop music even though I never could. So when I first had the opportunity to sneak away to the library and play a record on the library's record player (with headphones) I grabbed the most sacrilegious title I could find, "Speaking In Tongues." Got so…
Chiwetel Ojiafor gets my vote, although he probably wouldn't be interested. He's a great actor, he's great-looking, and his name would cause Rush's heart to explode.
That IS the best version. Haunting.
It's crummy that HBO screwed up the aspect ratio of "The Wire" on purpose, but you see it a lot in movie theaters. American films are usually shot at 1.85:1 (close to the aspect ratio of your HDTV) or 2.35:1 (seen on your HDTV in letterbox format.) The reasons why are historical and go back to when actual film was…
A bit unfair to snark about how many "Mad Men" watchers were bored almost instantly by Betty Draper and hence are rampant sexists. That's largely a fault of the early writing (the trophy wives in the first season of "Masters Of Sex" have far more personality), not the viewers. Maybe some of them went online and wrote…
Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS
Popcorn's always cheaper at indie theaters. The mainstream theaters have to give most of the box to studios, that's why they charge so much for concessions — it's the only way they make money.
Oh, learn to multitask at your computer already!
I'm waiting for "Snowpiercer" to come up on my library list (so nobody yell at me more loudly than amuses you) but I agree a lot with "BoxTrolls." A neat little theme about demonizing one group to win power with the dominant group, but not ham-handed at all. Some great silly jokes. Brilliant end-credit "added" scene.…
Fun thing I learned the other day. One of the great Alfred Molina's first screen roles was saying "throw me the idol, I throw you the whip!"
Yusuf/Cat didn't tour for a long time. That preserved his voice, I think. A friend of mine who sees tons of concerts only buys tickets if they're at the beginning of the tour, because by the end, the vocalist's voices are shot.
Maybe we should ONLY allow meat to people about to be executed. Or just seasonally, for traditional stuff. Convert mostly to sustainable agriculture but still have niche farms raising turkeys for Thanksgiving, hamburgers for the 4th, mystery-meat hot dogs for baseball games.
I won't defend the story (which doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense) but the mood is pretty consistent. (Maybe you have to find coldness and snow fascinating stuff.) Also that the two main characters ended up being relative unknown performers that you rooted for catching the bad guys. We get a lot of good,…
How good is TV right now? I forgot about how good "Who" is, that's how good.
Interesting that "True Detective" and "Fargo" both independently adopted the "one season, one case to be solved" method, and both are committed to changing locations/time periods in the next season. Hard to see how they can be as good without the primary performers, but that's what waiting is for.
Keep trying! If you want to, that is . . .
Ouch! But so true.
LBJ was a gigantic asshole and passed some good laws. More than Carter, who was a very nice man. They both did the evil-war, thing, but they all do that.
Good call, great film.
