If only he hadn’t invested in all those sharks with frikkin’ laser beams.
I mean this in the nicest way possible...
Y’know, I could really go for a Snickers.
The Gizmodo sites as a group do many things I dislike or disagree with, but the collected support to those with substance issues (of any degree) is incredibly admirable. You’re not over the top about it, but the words of encouragement & gentle reminders (e.g. Only Have Two Drinks at the Holiday Party) are an…
I love beer. Alcoholism is present on both sides of my family tree, so I’ve always consumed it enthusiastically, albeit moderately. But after the disastrous election last fall, having a beer with dinner grew from an occasional indulgence to a daily routine. In the last six months, my anxiety has reached an…
And Marvel’s brought Thor back in a big way, though I won’t drop any spoilers about him in American Gods.
We debated this one for a while trying to parse out Scherzer’s exact string of words, though some of them are pretty obvious. I think we’ve settled on “fucking bastard motherfucking bitch motherfucker” and now I can’t see it any other way.
I’m starting to think that we should begin a petition to urge the BBC to lend Jalopnik their Top Gear motto.
Piers Anthony wrote a series of novels with a similar premise called the Incarnations of Immortality. Basically, certain aspects of life were actual beings (Death, Time, War, Nature, Fate, etc), but they were more like “offices” that people held. For example, the officeholder of Death is immortal and indestructible…
In the book, is Mr. World even referenced as a new God? I was under the impression he was just considered a human flunky with a code name.
I was thinking it was the New Gods who set him up with the gun franchise- much like what they offered Wednesday of North Korea via the Odin bomb. As for how? Edwardian/Victorian neopaganism wouldn’t be a bad guess! By the 1950s he would be fading to a barest shadow and that be would the perfect time for such an offer…
No mention about the word play in the title of the episode? “A murder of Gods” as a referrent to the plural for a bunch of crows, i.e. “A murder of Crows.” Crowing—bragging about oneself, seemed to certainly be one of Vulcan’s major predispositions. Then mix that up with Wednesday. Ravens are his birds but Americans…
Yup Wednesday has been underplaying himself and his power purposely. Most people and the other gods just see him as just conman and fast talker. They’ve seemingly forgotten who he was and what had done. Which is kind of silly especially since Wednesday specifically asks for sword to fight with. Why would he ask for…
IMO he underestimated the power that having a day of the goddamn week named for him gives Wednesday. Wednesday’s a damn good conman so if he ever looks weak it’s because he wants to.
Either that, or he doesn’t mind dying a a sacrifice to himself. That kind of thing can be quite beneficial for a god; just ask Odin -- or Jesus.
Pretty sure he recognized Vulcan for what he was and it was confirmed with his talk of franchising and refusing the Soma. That’s why he played on Vulcan’s pride and had him forge a weapon in Wednesday’s name.
