I rarely, rarely sync my iPhone, all my contacts, email, notes and voicemails for work and personal are Google accounts, I use RDIO, Slacker and Pandora for music, I download podcasts from iTunes and get video from Netflix and Hulu and and photos I take I normally sent to my gmail.

In my experience this does apply to iPhones.
