Your focus on immigrants is a little odd. There are plenty of native born workers providing sub-standard, abusive “care”. There are even more of both trying to provide good quality, loving care.

I can’t imagine a worse reason to maintain a relationship – or bring children into the world – than my perceived financial self-interest.

And yet those same fates happen just as often to people who are married and have children. I think it would be a lot worse to be sitting there alone in the nursing home knowing your immediate family doesn’t care about you.

These are kids; telling a trusted adult is not a “wasted step”, and it also allows her some accommodation from the school, so she doesn’t have to ride the same bus with him or whatnot. Give the girl a break- she did nothing wrong. No one can ever be a victim perfectly enough to meet everyone’s standards.

6 month old baby! Still exclusively fed breastmilk but I’m pumping barely enough while at work now. Baby had been sleeping 10+ hours straight at night for weeks but was up three times last night for hours. I’m hoping growth spurt or something temporary. Otherwise she’s a good baby.

I did some cliff jumping into lakes in my younger days. One bad jump, and I am still afraid of heights more than 20 years later.

Really? I always wash my feet. But I tend to walk around the house barefoot, so they are probably the most dirty thing about me come shower time.

And also...so what if they take every available sick day? I get that it’s a problem if you start taking more time than you actually have, but if I take all of the time the company allotted to me (for whatever reason) why is that somehow then seen as a problem? If you don't want me to take 12 sick days, do not offer me…
