IIRC up to a certain speed propellers are more efficient, then from there up to just under sonic speeds high-bypass turbofans are most efficient (and the bigger the more efficent) but if you want to cross the sound barrier you’re pretty much stuck with pure turbojets or low-bypass turbofans.  I don’t know if reheat
