Piping hot take: this is one of very few modern BMWs that isn’t hideous. It’s not exactly pretty, but it’s not unpleasant to look at. The grille nostrils haven’t taken over the entire face. It looks like something from ten years ago, in a good way.

Holy crap, Lois.

Having driven it, it's actually pretty decent. Especially for those who prefer a more "normal"ish looking EV.

I owned a 2003 crew Silverado with it. Worked very well in the city and towed trailers like I was in a stable dually. Great idea; execution was fantastic.

This is more then a party trick. Especially if the price is right.

I want four wheel steering that’s controlled by a guy with his own wheel sitting in the back of the truck. Like an old-timey fire engine.

As a person who tows a boat, I love this. It’s the second coming of Quadrasteer!

If it is anything like quadrasteer in the early 00's, both axles also turn in the same direction over 45mph making lane changes smoother on the highway with less body movement.

Chevy offered 4 wheel steering on the GMT800 generation of pickups to counter complaints of having the largest steering radius in the market. Option got dropped because of a low take rate - you had to spend $7500 in options to get it.

“I could see this being useful in urban contexts, but also in off-road contexts as well.”

So the government just figured out what millions of travellers have long known... Spirit Airlines sucks colossal ass.

Does no one on this site realize that car transport services exist ? Or hell, a large-ish pickup truck with an appropriate trailer ?

If one is serious about getting into a short-range used EV you can pick up a Nissan Leaf or Chevy Spark EV from the same era for thousands less.

There are other electrics, younger, with fewer miles or both, available for less. Granted they’re Leafs, but the point stands. Essentially the same performance and range, seating capacity and arguably no worse looks, less money, less wear, less upkeep cost because Mercedes.

I want a brown, manual, one seater with a 16 foot bed so that I can carry TWO 4x8 sheets of plywood without stacking them. It also has to have rubber floors, crank windows, and don’t even THINK about putting any of those computer boxes in my dash!

But it’s also Jalopnik where everyone wants the exact configuration nobody ever buys. The fabled brown manual wagon regular-cab pickup.

Over on TFL, they took one for a ride. From what they said, it may be the best-riding body-on-frame* mid-size truck out there.

Manual Tacomas are hard to find at dealerships around me.

Same. Also, better towing/more power. Im not in the market for this since my 4x4 is still in excellent shape but i think this looks pretty good overall.

I actually think I prefer the looks of this to the Taco.
