I suspect most Jalopnik readers are simply too young to have driven these back in the day and they simply don’t understand how awful these cars were. Malaise-era Detroit cars were completely terrible. They were very unreliable. Handling was terrible. Performance was terrible — think about it: 140 hp from a 5.0 V8!

I do wonder where Audi finds all the vegans that they need for these seats.

Doing an engine swap on a car with so many computers is far easier said than done.  I don’t think you would ever get it work.

Sounds like my experience with a 2000 GTI GLX.  It was in the shop every month.  I sold it after 40k miles and ran back to Toyota.  My next vehicle was a 2003 4Runner that I kept for 13 years.

I drove a friend’s Type 4 once, many years ago. I was driving on the freeway and had to brake reasonably hard. The car changed lanes to the right on its own when I hit the brakes.  Apparently only the brakes on the right side were working.  That was likely more an issue with lack of maintenance than the a fault of the

Yes.

900+ pounds?  So, this would be a great first bike for me, right?

And in breaking news, water is still wet!  Details in our 11 o’clock broadcast!

90%+ of BEV charging takes place at home, not at a charging station. Charging networks are far less important than people think.

That is true in most states.

This happens for a couple reasons. First, the FJ40 motor was a gutless lump of misery. Second, Toyota is completely unable to understand the market for crate engines and is unwilling to supply create engines.  In contrast, GM and Ford are very active in selling crate motors and support them quite well.  This GM engine

Scrap or sink it. They need to end the bleeding. This thing is a hole in the water that they will keep dumping money into if they keep it.

And could you please take me out of the grays?  I’ve been a commenter on Jalopnik for quite a few years and have only recently be relegated to the grays without explanation.

Not gonna happen. Toyota is tired of rollover lawsuits.

I would love to have heard that phone call from the truck driver to his dispatcher.  “Uh, boss, got a bit of a problem here....”

1) you can’t do that in a Cessna 150.

Ford screws up a new vehicle launch?  Well, that’s never happened before.  /sarcasm

Don’t hold your breath. You will never be able to purchase a new pickup with those specs for $22,000.

No. It needs a “don’t be a moron” sign. That rollover was caused by stupidity or carelessness.  Black Bear Pass isn’t hard, but you have to pay attention and not freak out.
