That’s actually about the best description of them I’ve heard. I’m going to start using that.

I would bet that he’s also a “Constitutional Sheriff”, which is some whacko RWNJ theory that Sheriff’s are the highest law enforcement in the country because of some secret clause in the Constitution. The stupidest of the stupid, but also the gun nuttiest of the gun nuts.
Amazon has a fleet of the Rivian Delivery Vans in my area. I’ve been sorely tempted to do just that. I did ask a delivery guy how he liked the Rivian, said it was an absolute game-changer. Must easier to drive, more comfortable, etc. Which just makes me want to ‘borrow’ one even more.
Absolute NP on this one. Solid truck, actually can do off-roading, pretty solid engine (and refreshed), and sub-$7k.
Thank you for a sane post. I have been reading those reports since the ‘80s, and just linked to a C&D test from 2017 saying that, basically, there is almost no performance impact using the donut spare.
Why is it that whenever actual tests are done with cars using donuts, the results are that there is very little actual performance degradation? Seriously, I *think* the first time I remember reading about this was in like ‘87, but here is C&D from 2017:
Worst weather I ever drove through was January 6th, 1995. I got out of the Navy in Mayport Fl on the 5th, drove to Atlanta to stay with a friend for the night, and was going to drive to NYC on the 6th.
It’s funny how the Aussies are trying to claim Valtteri as an honorary Aussie. First, they’ve still got Danny Ricardo, and second, Valtteri is following in Kimi’s weird, go race anything footsteps. He’s a Finn, he’s always been a Finn, and he’ll always be a Finn. (Yes, I know that Kimi & Valtteri don’t get along, but…
You can still get steel wheels in a lot of sizes in Canada. I am considering buying a set for winter wheels on my Focus RS, just because I think it would look great with basic black steelies wrapped in snow tires for the winter. The issue is that I can’t seem to figure out how to get them shipped to the US, so I would…
An “intentional act” to crash a car/harm oneself is not the same as an “intential act” to crash a car into the second story of a house. I don’t doubt that the guy intended to drive into a ditch; I seriously doubt he intended to drive into the 2nd floor bedroom.
I’m gonna rate this NP, but if it were the 2-dr squareback, I might actually look to buy the thing. The squareback was a truly underrated car for HS students in the late 80s, roomy, cheap to run, came with a Blaupunkt stereo.
You guys are missing the point. The correct answer is a Euro-import 1990/1991 Audi Ur-Quattro with the 20v RR engine. It’s a classic, only came with a manual, has lots of room, very quick for the time (get it chipped & tuned to 300+ HP), AWD, and it’s a true, understated sports car for the discerning driver. As long…
I want to give this a NP, but I’m old enough to have ridden in these when they were new, and they were typical malaise-era full-sized cars. Massive and heavy and underpowered and wallowing and sad.
Never take on somebody else’s project. Especially when it’s a 45-year old British exotic. Especially, especially when it’s a 45-year old British exotic basket case.
Nope. Still ugly. Some designs grow on me. I *like* the Civic Type-R now. Every time I see the naked mole rat face of a new BMW, I hate it even more.
I drove one of these as a delivery truck in the summer of ‘87. Completely gutless, the only way to have any fun was tight freeway on-ramps, revving all the way to redline before every shift, but more to make sure you were at least close to highway speeds so you didn’t get squashed like a bug.
I was concerned until I saw the voting. My faith in Jalopnik has been restored.
So, you buy a Demon 170, you get the roll cage installed, you get the parachute installed, and you go to the track. You do your first run. You deploy the chute. Do you have to have someone certified re-pack the chute? Can you do it yourself? Are there random ex-Navy PRs just hanging out at drag strips to help re-pack…
There is not enough cocaine & newly-divorced hubris in the world to make this look like a good idea.
