How is it only in Europe? Do North American quail avoid hemlock? There is plenty of hemlock naturalized in N.A., no? Is it crossing the Mediterranean that makes the birds so eager to eat even hemlock, while in N.A. they can rest often while migrating?

I doubt that it was parthenogenesis in the Jurassic movies. That’s rarely a reliable strategy for vertebrates. IIRC, in the books it is implied that the ‘alpha’ became male, as some fish do, so that gene recombination takes place.
