Ok, maybe not "thoroughly", but it was okay. If this episode somehow did not get into the season's DVD set, however, there would not be much continuity lost. It was a weak story idea, probably shoehorned in to appeal to a wider audience, maybe more fantasy-ish than sci-fi, but the headline here may me think it was

Why E. coli? Probably because it has few letters. Of all the bacteria spread by roaches that might be a small concern. Staph of Strep are probably far more a health threat as far as roaches go. E. coli is more likely to infect from yourself or another human.
