Oh and thinking on it more you might also want to check out Ride with the Devil, for Ang Lee's great Civil War take, obviously Glory in the same vein and A Man Named Horse for amvery odd, especially to modern eyes, take on a supposedly more progressive of Native Americans.
I think it's probably worth a watch just for the sense of dread that goes along with the stark lighting in the train robbery. But yeah, stramge western takes are always an aquired taste and I could easily see how someone could be equally bored by the scenes I found fascinating.
