“Artists can certainly grow up and mature without losing their edge or creative spark.”

Did Bieber ever have an edge or creative spark? No criticism of him as a person and I’m sure he’s talented, but his brand of candy-coated pop-music was never really on the cutting edge of anything making an eventual mellowing out

I think you nailed it on the head. The impression that I got was that he is still saying she was wrong in asking the question, and he was wrong in attacking her.

“Two wrongs don’t make a right”

Clearly he still doesn’t get it. Nothing Gayle did was wrong. The rape case is part of his legacy whether people want it to be or not.

I’m sure you’re a blast on Pitchfork.

...his latest album entered at #1 on Billboard not even 3 weeks ago. If he’s irrelevant at 47 then Jay Z must be a forgotten relic at 50.

RI “liberal corruption” is a shit ton better than Maine’s idea of a pragmatic rational Republican

He was never portrayed as a smart character.

this scene makes no fucking sense to me.

I’m a Colorado resident and the assault / rape that happened here (and was then left unprosecuted for - uh - reasons) made a ton of press, and I read all about it. (Colorado is a professional sports Mecca, by the way, so we’re used to reading / hearing stories about John Elway’s son losing his temper, NBA players

I’m sure a lot of rapists had really complicated lives.

I guess I’m an asshole, then. He was good at basketball, and he raped a teenager. He just had the good sense to do it before #metoo.

fuck this fucking rapist

Hi Che! Are we going to see this as a bit on Weekend Update now?

Yeah. If this kind of behavior is your idea of normal “criticism,” you should get some help.

I know nothing about Allison, but he is correct in one thing - SNL sucks. Quite a lot actually. If Che is the head writer, well, he sucks too.

It baffles me that we’ve entered an era where hurling insults at each other online is not only totally normal behavior for adults but is also considered a valuable use of one’s time. The whole thing is just so petty, narcissistic, and immature.

Che seems weirdly thin-skinned, but the last time any kind of creative person (who didn’t, themselves, also work as a critic) had anything useful or interesting to say about criticism was approximately never. No, writing about music isn’t like dancing about architecture, it’s like writing about architecture, a totally

From the Allison article:

Che is such an insecure little baby. Comedians love to play tough guys who tell it like it is but always lose it at the smallest amount of criticism.
