That is quite the skidpan...

I helped restore one of those Scammels... the main gear of the tow winch was almost the entire width of the truck. The first time that engine fired up for us (no exhaust, just manifolds) was one of the most awesome moments I can remember.

Right, my point was that in the timeframe of these photos, centripetal force didn't pull the piece apart. That would take much longer.

The YORP effect would not produce the sudden disintegration seen here.... the body would just VERY slowly expand over millennia.

But as you can see from the tread, this is strictly a concept with no intention of being put into production.

Performance of a road tire in rain is a function of how much water is can expel from underneath itself. The grooves in the tread allow this water to escape towards the edges. What this central groove (as in Aquatread) does is to shorten the distance that the water must travel to escape from under the tire.
