A couple of things to note here.

The difference was that young Syd did a horrible thing which she felt awful about and then spent years not using her powers. Where as David never even accepted blame and got violently mad when confronted.

Yup. The evangelicals pushed this mess in African countries. 

I think the worst part for me is that I can genuinely imagine a compelling Darkseid pulled in this story, continuing from the concepts and poorly crafted themes in the previous two films. Them splicing in a bit of Tom King’s Mister Miracle (“Darkseid is”) and giving it to Affleck’s sociopathically paranoid Batman,

Oh, yeah, the orders to create concentration camps for Japanese Americans like so many other countries did for various people in the time regardless of their faction was a fucking anomaly.

In a world where he have something as visually crazy as Legion, I struggle to see any audience for New Mutants aside from a tiny number of hardcore fans desperate to see a movie of those forgettable looking characters.

It didn’t matter what he picked. He picked out two popular movies from when the culture was overwhelmingly white. It doesn’t matter if a lot of those Hollywood types from then were immigrants, jewish, or whatever else. It’s just the time period of far less inclusiveness is what matters. Which was the subtext here.

It’s crazy to think about industry standards back then, when you’d regularly have dozens of artists and programmers on a project being so dramatically overworked. Things have come such a long way now that it’s hundreds of them.

Honestly the only version I really enjoy is the original radio play.  I have a copy on vinyl from like the ‘60s and it’s wonderful.  The book is kind of dry for the most part and the movies aren’t much better.
