i agree completely. the best HoF metric is almost always, “if you have to convince people the player should be in, then the player probably doesn’t deserve to be in.”

Not can’t...there are voters that think 10 other people are more deserving. I’d argue that anyone great enough to be in the HOF would never be in that position.
Or a counterpoint, this voting process does a great job of keeping players like Edgar Martinez out...a very good player, who probably isn’t great enough to be in the HOF.
