Medium take: As sucky as parts of Crystal Skull are (the third act is awful), it’s still a better movie than the dreck that is Temple of Doom.

I have no quarrel with anyone who wants to debate, in good faith, about budgetary priorities. I would of course immediately point out how tiny NASA’s budget is compared to what we spend on the military and so forth, and the ROI we get for the dollars we put into it.

That’s so 1999. They’ll be gutted and turned into Amazon Fulfillment Centers more likely.

Billionaires give absolutely zero logs of shit about what us plebs like and hold dear to our hearts. If they choose to swoop in and turn it into more soulless high-rises that no one lives in or visits except for the Sweetgreens on the ground floor, they can and absolutely will do that. 

I worked at the Arclight Hollywood in 2012/2013, and as a film fan it was such a cool experience. Got to meet about every famous actor and filmmaker you could think of, saw so many movies for free, and worked with a ton of awesome people. A few stray memories:

Reviled by who? I love this movie; everyone was great in it but I would single out Viola Davis. And that Cliff Martinez score, gorgeous. Sure, it was doesn’t have a 12-minute wordless shot of a guy in a taxi or whatever, so I guess it’s not ART.

I like these articles that are blow-by-blow descriptions of videos and then I watch the video and it’s exactly as the article described it!

It’s just the fact that it belongs to the genre and is well known. I didn’t take it as a specific criticism. If you make a (more or less affectionate) parody of all the stalking monster movies, you’ll start it with references to Jaws and Alien, even if they are the genuinely good ones.

You are assuming that the military wouldn’t be on their side. They’d have the drones *and* their civilian AR-15s. Typically in fascist coups the military sides with the right wing.
