I think the issue with Joan Crawford is almost a real life version of the Don Draper/Dick Whitman dichotomy on Mad Men.

Considering she would have been in her 80's while Joan Collins was in her 50's.

I feel like if these two had made it to the 80's and/or were in better health, they would have camped it up on a nighttime soap along with Barbara Stanwyck, Charlton Heston, and Jane Wyman

The show is written with such empathy for its stars that it's easy to understand where all parties are coming from, even while not entirely condoning their actions.

It's one of the many ridiculous "comic" elements this season that's taken the show out of something resembling reality into something closer to a cartoon.
