San Diego is supposed to be the best climate in the country. But if you’re talking SoCal, it depends on where you are. Since the prevailing winds come from the west (from the Pacific), the closer you are to the ocean, the cooler the weather is. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. In the summer it could get to 106F.

SF isn’t perfect. But as Mark Twain was reported to have said (but didn’t): “The coldest winter I ever experienced was August in San Francisco.

Just texted this article to my wife and daughters. I’ve been telling them this for years.

Here’s what I have to say. You can download a high res copy for free to send to your Congressperson:

We have a half acre lot with lots of trees. We don’t try to have a nice lawn. We let whatever the wind blows our way. I hate mowing. But, I do every three weeks or so. Then I squint and see a beautiful green lawn.

Not in my recent experience. We were looking for a Hyundai Elantra. First went to Carmax, where 2-3 year old models with 20K-36K were selling for $13-$14K. Bought a new one with more safety features (larger backup camera, proximity warnings), heated seats, yadda for $15.1K.

From what we can ascertain, Cheney is still breathing.

Too bad Fawell’s gauntlet was taken up by his son, Jerry Jr.

It doesn’t stop after your child is born. I took my two youngins on the DC subway to daycare for four years. People just love to touch your kids. It’s especially hard when you’re trying to teach them to be wary of strangers.

Stephanie, they don’t look like selfies because they are self-portraits. There is a difference.

Decades ago, I did a photo documentary on the building of a freeway in Los Angeles (what is now the 105). One of my former photo students became an aerial photographer and a pilot and offered to take me up in a Cessna to shoot the freeway as houses were being cleared away and you could start to see the path the

I went to Trump’s inauguration, specifically to photograph. As Trump gave his speech, I had placed myself just behind a man wearing a “JFK 1960" cap. Yet, the Trump supporter standing next to me was hacking and sneezing without covering his mouth. But, the juxtaposition was too good to pass up. I kept asking myself,

From the map, it seems that Canada and Mexico seem the safest places to live.

My mother died when I was 21. A few years later, my father remarried. Every year, he wanted me to call his wife and wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. Sigh. Mostly, I did it, but not for her (she was one of the coldest people I have ever met —she had no desire to be my “mother,” nor did I want her to. I did it for my
