Can someone explain why BBM is affected and not iPhone etc?

To put it into context for all those that doubt it's a stab at Apple - the ad that ran the day before read

I can't understand why these days cars manufacturers still favour the cigarette outlet and not a set of USB outlets - at least in addition.
