The main cost savings come from not having to add a separate mechanism for the parking brake.

Hey, they even found a warehouse full of 1980s-era Mercedes shift knobs!
Hey, that's a little cheaper than a single Snap-On 3/8" Ratchet.

LOL DRIVING A TOYOTA ALL TEH SHEEPZ TAHT DRIVE THEM SUCKS!!!!!1
I've been driving a 1964 Oldsmobile 88 for 5 years now as a daily driver. Here's what I've learned:
We did get the Mercedes W126 in the U.S. in 1981, so it wasn't all bad.
I wouldn't mind a place in NuOppo, either.
I think some done blown up spectacularly in the 1960s and no longer exist.
Somebody's proud of the Imformbrio period.
Depends on what my locality used to de-ice roads.
Yes, but wouldn't you rather do the trip in an Alfa 75 or Jaguar XJ40?

Although the 1964 Oldsmobile i've been driving for a few years now is nice and beater-tastic, I would say a Volvo 240, due to the rugedness, availability of manual transmissions, and junkyard parts index.
Man, that's a grotesque car.
Sounds like the guy needs help, not jail time.
There's (probably) a mod for that?
Load order conflicts must be fun times for him.
If it had the 4.2 and gated manual, yes.
Okay...
There haven't been any good convertibles.
