I'd still rather have a GTI, although not with the goofy wheels. From what I hear, it's more refined, and the engine is easier to tune. Plus, for some reason, I think Volkswagens, especially the European-y ones like the Golf, are overall solid cars, even if a few things go wrong every once in a while.
It looks like it may be too far gone to be a survivor, especially with the state of the interior.
