Woops sorry replied multiple times.
It seems like most folks are going to be playing multiplayer, and this review focuses mostly on single-player.
This answers all the above questions:

I understand your confusion now. That is confusing.
That's me, too! There is a step in there that asks you "are you using a microSD or SD with your old 3DS" or something like that. I have to wonder if that might be for us.
Yeah, it's the same. It only supports FAT32, so that means 32GB and smaller, or larger ones that you've formatted to FAT32 yourself. (I'm using a 64GB)
I have everything on a microSD in an adapter too. So how do we do it? I thought it would just be a matter of doing the system transfer, then taking it out of the adapter and putting it in the New 3DS, just like the old system transfers where you'd transfer from one 3DS to another, then take the SD out of the old and…
I'm confused about it too, but you won't lose money or games. The worst that happens is you lose save data, but if you're careful, that won't happen.
You must have failed the step where it tells you to take the SD card from the old unit and put it into the new one. :)
Pretty much, yep.
Gamestop employee tried to convince me all I need is my Nintendo network ID and the serial number from my old 3DS and I could trade it in early and then redownload everything on my new 3DS. Glad I didn't believe him, because I really doubt that would work.
Too bad they've sold out before any even hit the store. :( I'll probably just buy one elsewhere, transfer, then hopefully I can still get $100 Gamestop credit for my old one and use it to get Steam/PSN/eShop cards.
Yeah, it supports up to 32GB. If you have bigger and format it to FAT32 yourself, that works too.
