My point was that the site (and lots of others) seem to, with certain filmmakers, transition into a review of the filmmaker rather than the film. I'm not glossing over shortcomings, but it is a curious phenomenon associated on with a few famous (and infamous) filmmakers.

I agree. These reviews seem to be too much of a retrospective of Nolan's career.
I mostly really loved this movie. I think Nolan has made himself a big target with his success, and it tends to cloud reviews…a rather big problem here at The AV Club in my humble opinion.
