Memorizing the times table does not negate understanding the concept- in fact it helps because it reinforces the pattern. I work with many kids who are up to 13 and still don't know their times tables thoroughly. It's the most common problem I get with kids who think they're 'not good at math.' They can't figure out

See, the fact that I learned multiplication tables helps me with that equation. Some of my nieces and nephews, in their early teens, honestly don't know how to answer "What's 7 * 8" without thinking it through for a couple minutes.

Ironically, none of those people who "sussing out by proper scholarship" know how to read Hebrew, Greek, or any Aramaic languages, preferring instead to rely on the good King James' idea of what it all means.

Yeah, because that sounds less crazy.

I can work that out since I know my multiplication tables 'by heart.' Kids who don't know their multiplication tables but know how multiplication works, make errors and don't get the correct answer. I work with kids and see it all the time. All rote memorization is not bad.

I love my multiplication tables. You can pry them out of my cold, dead, un-Raptured hands.

I'm 25 and I would fucking house this girl to let her go to high school and help her get scholarships to college.

Education is useful for much more than employment. But a great many employment opportunities are off-limits to you if you don't achieve a certain level of education (these kids weren't even on track for a GED).

Avoid all the important things! Hell yeah, thanks religion!

Thanks! I still haven't started it.. my husband was eyeballing the cover today so I think he might actually pick it up first, lol.

I watched this shitstorm on Twitter. (She's fearless when confronted with shit like this, btw.) Guys. SHE NEVER SAID 'I WANT FREE TAMPONS.' She only asked if people knew about any programs in other countries. Just asking that simple question provoked people to call her a cunt. Also, I highly recommend following

I'm PMSing and I have a menstrual migraine - can I PLEASE punch all of these stupid tweeters in their collective faces? #TamponsShouldBeSubsidized

I'm really enjoying Ben Aaronovich's Rivers of London books. A young London police officer discovers the magic underlying the workaday streets — taking witness statements from a ghost, flirting with the embodiment of a stream, tracking jazz vampires…

I'm trying desperately to finish The Poisonwood Bible. Everyone I know loved it and I am about halfway through and just keep putting it down in favor of other books. I'm also about 1/3 of the way through The Confessions of Frances Goodwin, which I won in a Goodreads giveaway so I need to read it because it's the

I read this while backpacking in Eastern Europe and I'm part of the contingent that HATES IT. There are also people who love it with the burning of a thousand suns.

Came down here to say that I read Anne of Green Gables like ten times when I was a kid. I don't remember it being racist but I'm sure it went straight over my head. :(

I'm trying to understand how what we project into the universe determines our path. I heard this was a good read to think on it:
