Probably a lot of stock options, and when googles stock is over $800 a share it adds up quickly!

I would assume it had more to do with notoriety than the money. Let’s face it, at Waymo (Google) the AV tech would be credited to a team. By starting his own company and getting it acquired by Uber he gets the credit for the AV tech. I think some of these guys are so caught up in what they are supposed to be that they

I find myself not Uber interested in it actually.

He got a $120M payday from Google but that wasn’t enough for him, so had to steal their IP, and violate company policy by founding other companies and not disclosing them to Waymo?

Jesus, I knew that the incentive pay they grant top engineers in SV could be crazy but I was not expected $120 million crazy.

This just got Waymo interesting.

maybe someone was banging in a fighter jet?

Media Intern: Sir! This Wikipedia article says that fighter jets sometimes hold two people!

Military aircraft don’t fly with live weapons on training flights over built up areas.

Every single motorsport has a potential danger to others. So does rock climbing (hey you could fall on someone), canoeing is a danger to others because if you start drowning someone might try to rescue you.

Evel Knievel was smart enough to get paid for this.

PLOT TWIST! People are too small!

He did

FWIW, while I get why track day organizers might drop the hammer on sweet, sweet sideways action, mmm. That’s some excellent driftage. (Moar plz.)

No matter what you do to a petrol engine, it’s not going to be more economical than a diesel. If it was, you’d see petrol trucks, tractors and buses.

It’s a fine idea as long as you actually properly treat your exhaust. Granted that’s only been happening for the last 10 years or so, and VW just completely bypassed it by cheating, but it is viable. What was stupid was the EU basically puffing up diesels by taxing the crap out of gas engines while at the same time

They are and they ever will be more efficient than gas engine. They also emit less green house gaz. The NOx problem is a by product of environment regulation. By restraining CO2 emissions, manufacturers had to increase combustion temps, which produce more Nox, which we learned is bad.

It used to be seen as the greener option. And cheaper in mileage terms too. More efficient and cleaner gasoline engines have left it way behind though. It is a mark of how far we’ve come on efficiency and emissions control. And cheaper gas prices too.

It’s a perfect idea for passenger cars. It’s far more efficient than gasoline, in many cases being very close to/above hybrid efficiency.

The person with the $175 Escort GT with a functional hood scoop made from a broken dust pan and dryer vent tube does not qualify for “dumbest shit”. This person is a hero.
