That is the best decription of his transformation, his powered up form will be forever known as Super Saiyan Skeletor!

It’s Super Saiyan Skeletor from the Masters of the Universe movie

Yeah it’s up there with the chick getting infected by the computer in Superman III for things that traumatized me as a kid.  Love both those movies though.

Assuming they all came out in the eighties I think I would have gone with Ladyhawke, Dragonslayer, Excalibur, or Time Bandits, over a couple you have on the list.

I will never get over Return to Oz and the Hall of Heads.

If you’re looking for a super deep cut, you can watch one of Christian Bale’s first ever films, which is a fantasy from 1987. (And Christopher Lee!) I loved it when I was little.

THESIS: Disney being run by clueless old dorks in the ‘70s and ‘80s created an opening for all sorts of weird, wild fantasy movies from many different sources, and explains why Gen-Xers’ childhoods were so goddamned strange and unsettling and magical.

Return to Oz is fucking AMAZING.  It’s WAY more true to the books, and it’s just wonderful.

Go sit in the corner! Only kidding! I get where your coming from... and I love The Dark Crystal!

The only movie I have not seen on this amazing list is”Return to Oz.”

How about:

The scene where Molly chastises the Unicorn for finally showing up after Molly isn’t young anymore guts me every time. As I have grown from a young girl-child to someone probably older than Molly’s age in the film, that scene has only become more poignant to me.

The Glaive is one of fantasy’s coolest weapons.

Counterpoint, Del Toro (nor Disney for that matter) needs not remake anything that was previously made with 2D animation or practical puppet effects. They are already perfect.

OMG... TAKE MY MONEY NOW, GUILLERMO DEL TORO!

In the early ‘80s, there was this idea that Dragonslayer and Conan the Barbarian were going to kick off a wave of sword & sorcery movies, like Bond had done for spy movies in the ‘60s. That’s why there were so many low-budget fantasy flicks around 1981-83. Everybody was trying to get in on the ground floor.

Hawk the Slayer is the best 80s fantasy movie clearly based on a 7th grade D&D campaign.
