The difference is—-just to play devil's advocate here—-that most jobs don't require you to be the best at something. You just need to be able to do it. There's probably not a hair's breadth of difference between the top 100 aircraft mechanics, for example. In the performing arts, though, and especially comedy, the

Your'e not getting the point. He's talking about specifically network television, which has basically abandoned the idea that white audiences want to watch shows about black people, particularly sitcoms.

That's part of it too. SNL has never been a big show with black audiences, except for maybe two years when Eddie Murphy was on the show.

You probably would have said the same thing ten years ago, though, when Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg all joined the show at the same time.

SNL is actually more diverse than most improv troupes I've seen.

Cecily Strong is Latina, and Nasim Pedrad is Persian. Do they need to speak with accents or something for them to apply as non-white?

They brought in Jay Pharoah after she left, though.

He had that first sketch with the military briefing, that was pretty strong, and that he performed well.

Hiring five white dudes to replace five white dudes doesn't make the show any less representative than it has been in ever, especially since I'm sure they don't expect all of them to last (sorry John Milhiser).

"That's on you, though."

One strength Marvel has that DC doesn't, is that most of their characters have a strong Lee/Kirby/Ditko/whoever foundation to fall back on if they stray too far from their roots. There's always a strong home base to retreat to. DC doesn't have that for most of their characters, which is why most of them are reinvented

Oh shit, I remember that. He was actually going to follow Miller's Born Again run, until wiser heads prevailed.

I hope he takes the Black Widow with him to SF, just like the old days.

Yeah, really. It's pretty much the exact opposite of Diggle's run. I don't know, when I get put off a run by a particular creator, if the next guy is doing something different, that makes me more likely to try it, not less.

That's what it was. And they had some more expensive comics with fancy covers that month.

Except that Slott's GLA arc was intentionally satirical and Balent's art was not. So, that's kind of a pointless comparison.

You need to get beyond the black/white hero/villain dynamic to appreciate a more complex story like this. Think Mad Men or Breaking Bad more than Buffy or Star Trek.

"Children won't want to see that!"

And now we get to hear all those jokes again every week on Modern Family.

I like the sound of the universe. It seems just and right.
