You do realize that after the union negotiates the CBA the players still have to sign off on it. That means that these antiquated rules were not only collectively bargained by the minority union reps, but then agreed upon by a majority (not sure if the actual %) of the actual players in the league. None of this excuses Gordon. He still knew the rules, no matter how messed up, and decided weed was worth the possible consequences. We aren't talking about a first offender. He knew what he had to do to stay out of trouble and said screw it.

The IRS cracked down on automatic gratuities last year. Something about it now being scene as wages and taxed as such. I remember reading about how Darden restaurants were getting rid of it because of the new way the IRS looked at it. I'm guessing that a lot of places followed their lead.
