Now playing

Oh, almost forgot it was July 4th today. Time to listen the speech again

I’m not sure we should be guilty about it. Independence Day is very well crafted spectacle with likeable main characters, great visuals, an inspiring message, and a lot of well-intentioned goofiness. So it’s not a deep philosophical look at the human condition, but even Plato needed to take a break from thinking from

Attaching giant kites to ships is some absolute future tech, literally nobody could envision what this might look like, fully realized. Here, I’ve asked a very advanced AI to extrapolate what an image of this might look like in the future.

everything old is new again

Of course we know he has lied entirely about the reasoning, since what he did is not how you solve those things.

Nowhere on earth will escape this. All they are doing is buying some time, but in the end, nowhere is safe.

It’s very, very likely that those sites are violating copyright by hosting the lyrics -- and note that hosting those lyrics is not the same as purporting to “generate” them de novo. People are using LLMs as creative aids, which means that there is a high risk of creating infringing, plagiarized or derivative work.

The issue is that AI often takes the exact data from its training set and uses it to produce output. Thats why you end up with generated images with a Getty watermark on them. It would be like you visiting the Louvre and taking a piece of the Mona Lisa and making a collage.

Per capita, Australia is one of the most polluting nations ever to exist. The only reason that you don’t find them at the top of certain rankings (like the ones that focus on India and China) is that there are so few people living there. But culturally, they are among the most wasteful people on the planet.

Protecting free speech at the expense of protecting discriminated classes is not a reasonable tradeoff in an enlightened society because people in power (in this case those with money and services) will discriminate and people without  will not always have a method for recourse. There was a whole Civil Rights movement

Man those cops are playing too many violent video games.

There is one point, just the one, that he makes, that everyone seems to forget.

Yeah, it couldn’t possibly be because a cop murdered a 17-year-old kid.

Coolest part is that a real customer cracked it from a pack. The card store / hobby shop it was bought from has been tweeting it this morning. The owner is still anonymous.

That sounds great until you live somewhere like the deep south and nobody within 200 miles will cater your wedding. The “free market” didn’t solve segregation, why would it solve this?

What grinds my gears in all of this was that this was a hypothetical. The women literally doesn’t run a website and had no injury whatsoever and should have had no standing to bring this case to the courts. But here we are, another day in American being ruled by a loud, ignorant, violent minority.

Imagine a business with a sign on the door saying:

Sotomayor’s dissent is a work of art. Good, decent people will ignore this ruling. Bad people will immediately start discriminating against queer people today. And that’s a big problem for a nation that has freedom and quality baked into its constitution. Adding insult to injury, the plaintiffs here had no standing

Once again, freedom of religion does not mean you are free to force your religion on other people.

She shoulda just recused herself, it’s a clear conflict.
