This is awesome. They’ve done far more to help out than some actor mentioning the fires in their Golden Globe acceptance speech to get a bit more applause.

Clearly, most people who use the phrase “vote with your wallet” really mean “shut up and don't say anything that challenges my worldview”. Why shouldn’t people inform others of issues they care about that could impact purchasing decisions? Why are people so threatened by others sharing info that isn’t disputed.…
Who is demanding anything? It’s valid to ask them to make a change just like it’s valid to ask Blizzard to nerf so and so hero or to ask Bungie to adjust Eververse.
I mean just say you ‘Don’t want to add women in.’ just...just fucking say it. Because saying ‘Game lore’ is a bullshit reason. You’re going to get shit either way so just be honest.
When you factor in the boob physics, hip sway, seductive walk, playful giggles when sneaking, sexually charged moans when taking damage, make-up application animations, entirely new costumes and outfits that all show off midriff/cleavage/thighs, and a host of other problems it’s painfully clear how much extra work…
Is your point directed at this author? Because I didn’t see any place in the article that demanded BSG do anything. In fact, the article seems to jive with your articulated method for consumers to enact change - the article states that BSG can’t/won’t/doesn’t want to add female characters; consumers can read the…
And articles like this help me make an informed decision about which developers I support.
These are also the dickhead developers who tried to nuke a YouTubers channel with DMCAs for being too negative so they won't receive my money.
I read a thread on twitter about it, and aside from toxic dude-bros banging on about how right the company is. The company itself basically said they don’t care if it loses them customers. They are positioning themselves for the gator crowd.
I’ll chime in here. I was on the frontlines of the gender wars of the video game industry back in the 90's (yes, I am old). I spoke at GDC regularly and was part of a group of women who did so frequently, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were tokenized by our presence at such a male dominated event. We…
I can’t tell you how often I’ve regretted choosing a gendered handle on Kinja. Seriously. (I also wish I had thought of a more clever one, but this was right after the great purge/hack back in the day and they wouldn’t let me create a new account with my older, better one.)
I’ve never been more embarrassed and disappointed by my fellow gamers than I was during some of the events recounted in this article. The things Anita and Maddy (and many others) had to face is just so shameful.
Reminder: if you’re here to insist Gamergate wasn’t about harassing Quinn or that there was collusion involved, you’re outright incorrect, and there’s plenty of proof out there showing it.
>> The problem was never women in video games - the problem was men in video games seeing women in video games (again, playing, speaking about, etc.).
I usually don’t have time to read the Kotaku features, so I fully expected to browse the first couple of paragraphs and move on.
Excellent article. Thank you Maddy, for writing it up, and for all you’ve done.
Fantastic write up, Maddy. And thank you for reminding me how utterly shitty Bioshock Infinite’s politics are.
