Now this is a woman who didn’t read Flygirl.

This is simplistic, no doubt, but she’s still right about the value of letting go of other people’s judgments. And I really like what she said in another Time piece that they link to in this one:

True story: the 90's were much much better for black people on TV and movies than today. Like waaay better.

I suspect she means in this millennium. Maybe even this decade.

The broader point that separate awards don’t fix the problem is important, but it shouldn’t preclude the creation of community and recognition in separate spaces. He, like legions of other decent white folk, is just plumb tired of having to hear about racism. Hmmm these covers are okay. But could we get a blond white woman to put on some brown face and recreate them so we can truly see how beautiful these ladies are?

The president can’t make law. Executive actions can only clarify and/or refine existing law. Banning assault weapons is something he simply can’t do, with any reasonable hope of it holding up in court.
