I can’t blame her for taking the role. She’d have been crazy to turn it down. But the studio was crazier for offering it to her in the first place.

I get it but the most vulnerable people overlap with “people who don’t have the means to move to a better place.”

Funny that white men can find some common ground with other white men who just happened to be attracted to white men, but women still aren’t people.

Something tells me that Miss Westmoreland had no problems with classroom discipline. And I would also like a movie about a group of four Black female AU students from the turn of the century—it’s senior year, and they’re wrestling with race, class, love, and ambition, all with the strength of friendship. Don’t tell me

I felt like 2003 and earlier was alright?

As a dark-skinned woman, it’s so crushing to me that they so desperately needed to cast a lighter woman they opted for BLACKFACE and PROSTHETICS. While there are fine actresses who more closely resemble Simone (who also sing!!). What a long way to go to be hurtful.

compared to who?

This is the homage Nina Simone would have expected.

that makeup looks bad. Nina Simone was a beautiful smooth skinned black woman. That makeup LOOKS like black face. It’s smear-y and streak-y and she looks like an ignorant FSU sorority girl making a bad decision on instagram.

I’m not sure why I’m surprised that “tasteful blackface” didn’t work out the way they promised it would. But sweet salty cheezits that’s embarrassing to look at. Yikes.

David Oyelowo. Waaahhhhyyy?

No kidding, he probably feels like COMPLETE SHIT today. I bet it’s the worst hangover you could possibly have.

When I was breastfeeding/pumping for my 2 boys I steadfastly refused to do any of it in a bathroom. This sometimes required being, ahem, rather vocal. Although this embarrassed my husband, I did get to use an unoccupied VIP area to pump once, after kicking up a fuss at an NHL game.

Or maybe if you’re all 40, you just don’t name your friend group and call it a day.

Poor Owen. Such a tragedy.

also, why do we keep seeing thousands upon thousands of words dedicated to convicted pieces of shit? i don’t want to know their psyche. i don’t want to know about their parents. fuck them. these men authors are, as usual, focusing on the wrong thing.

All of these stories have had a subtext like “It’s so hard to believe this happened.” Um, no, actually, for most women it’s not hard to believe at all.

As a professor myself, that’s what scares (if anything really does) me the most. I’ve had students upset because I mention evolution in an Intro Psych class. The folks who are most upset by what we discuss in class are likely the folks who will also choose to carry on campus.

But liberals and safe spaces are ruining academia.

Biology professor: “The wide diversity of similar species on the Galapagos islands can be explained by evolutiona—” <metallic clicks from around the lecture hall> “— by, uh, Jesus, of course!” <hammers are quietly lowered and rounds unchambered>
