In the comics the zombies do actually rot away. But rather that just "die" so to speak they become barely mobile. (Example is the zombie torso reaching for Rick in the pilot episode). The comic I don't believe really addresses mop up.

I much as I have argued down people that were against the "Johnny Storm being black" element I have to say your explanation is the most clear and logical one I have heard and probably ever will hear. I totally see your point.

You make good points, people do forget that the DCAU got to the shared superhero universe thing first with having the Justice League cartoon be the shared universe of the Superman and Batman cartoons.
