Not just tax. Also includes insurance on I think. Aussie prices are not really comparable. Land Cruiser 300 starts at $46.5k USD n Japan apples to apples pricing.

Yes. The problem with income inequality is that the economy simply stops serving huge swaths of the population. Like how a large portion of the US simply doesn't have healthcare, or how bread is 7 bucks a loaf. It's gonna start looking pretty France 1780s once the rich own all the property and can buy thier way out of

Do those prices include tax?

If you’re only priced out of a Land Cruiser because of markups, you’re already rich.

“I don’t understand why anybody is buying 4Runners and FJs (which are wildly overpriced) to offroad when a ~20K mile GX can be had under $40K.”

And yet you can still pick up lightly used, off-lease Lexus GX’s for a fraction of what they sold for new. Search AutoTrader and CarGurus nationally, I don’t understand why anybody is buying 4Runners and FJs (which are wildly overpriced) to offroad when a ~20K mile GX can be had under $40K.

I meani agree w/you. Other than a handful of cities public transportation is an iffy thing, at best, in this country. Fixing that and the suburbs and exurbs and the culture of car dependency they foster should be damn near job one imo. But as a country were totally fucked and nothign will happen.

Yep. This is peak jalopnik commentariat “cars akshually suck.” wrangler and g wagen are bad off roaders. This whole readership has jumped the shark.

“Off road” is a really big tent, with a lot of different use cases that are all off established roads but may very much be requiring very different things from a vehicle. Rock crawling on narrow trails vs desert bashing vs. mudding vs. whatever else people end up doing.

Fwiw, we don’t need car services at all. Get off your lazy f****** ass and walk, bike, or take transit. It’s not about solving the EV vs ice problem. We don’t need either one in any major American city. It’s about solving American culture problems. For that - I’m not sure we can solve it.

The Taco and the Wrangler are not overrated. Go home.  You’re drunk.

Was the Durango ever hyped as an off-roader ? Hard to be overrated for something you are not.

Does the Subaru Brat count as an off-road vehicle

this might be the worst listicle yet, keep it up guys!

The H2 has to be one of the worst vehicle designs ever. I suspect we’ll look back on the new Hummer EV in the same way, once the novelty of it wears off you’re just left with an oversized ugly monstrosity.

I’d still take our “old” 2019 Range Rover over any other luxury SUV on the market...

I’m not sure that would work in Boston.  A driver doing repeated airport runs from the further suburbs could easily do over 300 miles per day, and there isn’t room at the airport terminals where they wait for passengers for charging points.

Except most are used to shuttle people from the suburbs into the airport, Boston is not NYC when comparing car services where they exist in large numbers. Very likely that they are doing fairly long round trip runs as well. Is there a way to make EVs work for what you are saying, absolutely. Then it becomes a

The Range Rover is the SUV for wealthy people who want to be seen in them and don’t understand the potential for expensive catastrophic failure.
