Your typical car is regulated up the wazoo anyway. There are volumes of books regulating everything from placement of controls to door handle operation. The most important thing, and hence the only thing they don’t regulate is interface. Engine, transmission, radiator, seats, window regulators should all have common

I could see the last half of those 30 years being the era that makes sense to have just a handful of ICE engines as the rest of the world goes EV. I could see companies like VW and Toyota, or even the Domestic 3, collaborating on a couple of I-4s or even I-3s for markets like Central/South America, Africa or parts of

A few problems exist:

Incorrect. If you agree to such a contract provision, it’s binding.

You can add any condition you want to a contract pre-sale.  If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.  If you manage to buy it without signing an agreement, they can’t force it on you later though.  If this condition makes the vehicle less valuable to you, DON”T BUY IT.  Plenty of other people are happy to.

I hate scalpers everywhere and cars are no exception. Maybe 1 year is too long but Ford absolutely should be taking measures to stop scalping. If only graphics card makers could/would do that....

Exactly, the problem with this Socialist way of thinking is usually everyone ends up with the lowest common denominator, inhibits competition, and eventually leads to the collapse of innovation.

Just think, Musk would still be producing EV’s with borrowed Lotus chassis and off the shelf components instead of creating

Ending competition ends innovation. Bad idea.

Idk, this sort of thing yields engines like the world engine that Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Mercedes developed together.  Everyone will want a hand in the design and they will ruin it

This. And it ends competition, so effectively slows or ends advancement and innovation.

If we’re so proficient with 500cc cylinders, why aren’t there more 4.0L V8s?  The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the 1UZ.

I don’t know how much it helps. It saves on the development costs but it also puts a major risk on the industry - imagine some fundamental design problem that instead of being in 100k cars is in 1000k cars and requires a mass recall. That’s what dependence on Takata created.

So they are only aloud to gouge on Mach-Es ?

Ford is just posturing and will actually do nothing about it.

Given that the F150 is such a huge seller, taking away allotments would be a huge blow to a dealer. IF Ford actually did it.

The Hummer EV comes in at 9000 lbs; I’m gonna say this will be at least 8500. I guess all that weight will get you to the bottom of the mud pit to where the traction is?

Yes.  I made some mild criticism of one of the worse journalists on this site and was summarily put into the greys with no notice.  If you dare point out their progressive idiocy, they try to drive you off the site by putting you in the greys.

False. Have you any idea how much space a rear facing child safety seat requires? Have you any idea how much space a stroller requires? A GTI works if the driver is pint size and the parents never hope to haul luggage or groceries along with their stroller.

Guys, it’s just 1 child. Any compact hatchback available on the American market is large enough. Also, you don’t want a sedan. There’s less headroom for the adult loading the child into a seat.

I feel like driving and parking a 196" sedan in San Francisco won’t be super pleasant.
