Every few years the same proposal comes back again. It’s a fun idea. But it’s never viable. Ships run on timelines. Wind doesn’t. Ships are not designed with the necessary foils on the bottom for efficient sailing or the righting moment. So they only sail down wind and that’s not very efficient. Plus down wind only

He’s a link if it works

When I post a link it doesn’t stay. But it was the same model, one fwd with snow tires the other AWD with all seasons. Both new on new tires on a snow course. AWD was faster due to better cornering and acceleration.

AWD has been used in F1. The car that got the rules changed was a 6 wheel car with 4 driven rear wheels. But races were won with AWD cars in F1 before it was banned. It’s considered too expensive so only a few could afford it.

We are living in the only period in history where those in power are completely or nearly completely severed from responsibility. I don’t think that it can survive over the long run. This is just one example. But also, in wider sense ben bernanke, Bob Reuben, those folk should also if not be in jail, be destitute.

The race was on a long course with a lot of corners and some straightaways. So a mix of acceleration cornering and braking. Probably not all that far off of the combination of things you might experience in a regular everyday driving.

I think it’s a pretty relevant comparison, because lots of people choose all wheel drive and all season tires instead of a 2-wheel drive car with snow tires. I would say that’s probably one of the most common alternatives between two options in places where it snows frequently. So I think it makes a whole lot of sense

I’m comparing a vehicle with four wheel drive engaged. The requirement is a mechanical linkage connecting all four tires. In that case the vehicle will stop faster all else equal. This is true on dry pavement as well. It was used for a few years in formula 1 racing before it was banned as an unfair advantage. And it

In modern engines, is really hard on them to idle. I read one tuners breakdown of what they found in a newer Toyota engine - half of the entire fuel mapping is dedicated just to idle alone. Because it was so hard to keep it from pinging. Probably has something to do with idling clean enough to meet EPA regulations. So

My 4Runner feels like living in the ‘90s still - but it does have one great feature for snow driving. In addition to the obvious 4x4 stuff, which is heated wiper area on the windshield. I don’t use it all that often because I have a garage. But every now and then when it snows a lot of the ski hill or something and

I was hoping somebody might post this video. There’s a few other ones on showing how 4x4 stops faster than 2wd also. Good all season tires and AWD are perfectly fine for almost any winter condition.

4wd does stop faster. It's not intuitive why. And I'm happy to explain it if you want, but it's kind of a long explanation on the physics. It is true though. Mechanically linked - like true 4x4 systems, they can actually stop faster on snow and ice. You can pop on YouTube and see some side by side testing.

One of the European racing channels just did a race between AWD with all seasons and fwd with snow tires. Who won? AWD and all seasons. It handled better, cornered faster, and overall had faster lap times on the snow course

You can’t stop faster in 4x4.

Didn’t you just ask this in November??

There’s a ton of great uses. First is the reverse of this story. Use to track stolen cars. That what I use them for. On my motorcycles, trailers, expensive bicycles, and other equipment. The other great use is for pets who run away. My rescue dog is an escape artist. She's literally jumped off my second story deck

Yes. Did you not read the headline or any of the article? The punishment for what he did wildly exceeds the crime and the business owner who created the situation gets no punishment. OF COURSE HE RAN!!! He'd be a fool not to given the outcome.

The owner SHOULD go to jail. That's exactly what I said and it's the correct outcome despite being unlikely in the Trump version of America we have now where business owners and shielded from any real consequences of their actions. They have no skin in the game. That needs to change.

I’ve driven many heavy trucks. I owned an excavation company. I’m pretty familiar with heavy truck brakes and driving. What I think you’re missing is how many trucking companies put an immigrant with limited experience and no training behind the wheel of 80k lbs with marginal equipment. That's what happened here. And

IMO a few years in jail. BUT the owner of the truck company should serve equal or greater time.
