Sadly this is a tragic narrative that’s happening too often in tech. Too many technologically inclined people who don’t have a diverse philosophical background and can’t think bigger picture.

It... Literally tells you why in the article...
I still like him even as a racer. He’s a “finish first or destroy the car trying” kind of driver, which I know is silly, but is entertaining. I feel like he gets a bad rap for that, yet we love Senna and Prost who also used to race the same way.
I think you completely missed the point of what “seemingly impossible” was referring to. Creating one viral video is difficult and takes a stupid amount of luck. Doing it time and time again is what they’re referring to as being seemingly impossible.
While he still races at times, he’s more of an entertainer than top tier racing driver it seems. It’s worked out pretty well for him. While people who aren’t interested in WRC or Rally America have no idea who Ogier or Higgins are, just about every bro who has ever chugged a Monster knows who Ken Block is.
Wrangler Bros, they are everywhere.
Also, at 3300 lbs, the Viper weighs ~100 less than the “small” SLK, despite 10 cylinders, 45% more displacement, and 6-lug wheels.
Comments critiquing this blog for being moderately lefty and not straight journalism are one of the more exhausting parts of kinja-era AV Club.
I’ve lived at Ocean City and assure you bike week has the same type of asshole.
What has stanced cars ever done to you?

The bigger reason is probably “insurance fraud”
Most people can’t afford to retire yet alone a mid life crisis.
He was also (and might still be) an incredibly talented recording artist and producer. If all you know is gold digger that’s a shame.
That upgrade kit for $32K seems downright reasonable to bring it up to top spec.
When I saw the title, before clicking it I expected to see a $3M - $4M price tag. Then opening the story to see $480k I thought “That’s pretty damn reasonable......not as if I can afford that price either”
$480k for a turnkey fully developed and pedigreed GT3 race car is not stupid expensive.
Sounds like a lot of money was stolen from their business. Money used to pay employees, make products. It’s not like these guys didn’t earn it and aren’t putting it to good use. I find your reaction baffling.
I will never understand how people can think this car looks bad, especially if they are into Zonda’s
Reminds me of explaining that my 100% factory Lancer Evolution was not illegally modified and the rear spoiler was *not* going to be removed because it was DOT approved.
