Mulaney. I get it, he's a lovable comedian but he should be put in time out for that show. I didn't think a stand-up getting a TV show could have been worse than Pete Holmes' atrocity, but Mulaney found a way.

In the end exploitation is a wide net that could be used to describe the vast amount of entertainment. Does exploitation exist in art? Perhaps to a lesser degree it does, and when its there it also feels more opaque. The Kubrick or Bob Fosse treatment of actors as tools and instruments instead of human beings is…
Other than Spike Lee and the Mad Men episode "Old Kentucky Home" we as a cultural prefer to not believe that black face has been enjoyed for as long as it has. Australia very recently had a PR snare with game shows incorporating black face in their act.
I know it was used in Little Britain, and I'm not sure it was…
I love this. Real discussion of art and entertainment. Especially when it is with someone as articulate and educated as yourself. I'm not really in the game of winning anything, especially conversations, but I only employed that article, not exclusively for your own sake, but for anyone else who happens to stumble…
I wonder if Lynch has even heard of T&E, his cultural antenna is rather erratic and unpredictable.
There are plenty of messages and social criticism to be found. Particularly about consumerism, consumption, paternalism, manhood, corporations, bureaucracy and the narcissism and hubris of people in the entertainment industry. I think T&E attack Hollywood and the entertainment industry way more than they do…
Tim is definitely the thornier and more hostile one in interviews, I love that about him, but overall Heidecker is a real acerbic figure.
Thanks for illuminating me on that, most of the cool, attractive hipster people I barely tolerated in high school all seemed to buy into that disturbing cultural appropriation trend. India, is another culture that white people have been culturally exploiting for their own good for years, a little band called The…
This is an interesting critique of T&E, one that is not trotted out much because the majority of criticism against their work is that it's just weird for the sake of being weird.
I truly believe that T&E treat their actors respectfully and are not exploiting them, but I think there are exceptions. David Libe Hart has…
What did you dislike about Tom? It seems that show is one of the most divisive projects they have ever done, but I am a devotee of everything they release. I didn't like the movie though, they really should have done away with the notion of plot and made a free-form Jodorowsky freak-out.
Imagine what Jim Morrison, Elvis or John Lennon would do if they had access to YouTube?
I imagine a lot of rambling tirades against shadowy agents of destruction and, of course, lip smacking.
Now musicians I genuinely think would have made fun music blogs: Frank Sinatra? Most musicians seem incapable of coming across…
I agree most of the episodes left me wanting more and I don't understand why they only did one 30 minute episode. Still I think "Toes" is terrific because of its brevity and accomplishes an impressive deal in a very short time frame. "The Bathroom Boys" was another one that excelled with its constricted time-frame.
The…
Exactly, I feel T&E have been slept on a lot by this site. Bedtime Stories was a terrific project that should have been fully embraced. Some of the best material they have done so far, especially "Toes" and "Roommates."
But the film was delayed because it wasn't completely ready yet. The movie hasn't been sitting around in a vault somewhere to burst out of on February, its digital effects have been retooled and developed on.
Well he is spliced with bee DNA, so if he dares to sting someone, the only conclusion I can foresee happening…
Really was one of the best 60s period pieces I have ever seen, and I enjoyed it was wonderfully dark, a tone most movies about musicians rarely strike well.
True, but it wasn't until the movie came out that people believed that something like Lego could translate well into film. I recall people lobbing jokes at the premise of the Lego Movie as it was no better than Lincoln Log or Rubicks Cube inspired tale.
Easily the best music video director since Spike Jonze.
Yeah but he won't have a space-cat in his lap while he flies his craft and I assure you his character will not blow off steam by playing an open mic show at the Cantina. As you can see this film wasn't made for the likes of me.
