Another thing about calling this stupid: People still unlock their phone with PINs like 111222, even with a thumbprint sensor on the phone.
Most people suck at keeping their phone secure, and enrolling all your fingers into the senor is a PITA they don’t want to hassle with. As a result, they are far less secure

A few things:

It is handy. The 3 things you need to make it work easily:
VLAN-aware switch
VLAN-aware firewall
VLAN-aware access points.

If you have those things, partitioning off is pretty easy and can be done hundreds of times, if needed.

Please, don’t hide your SSID. It is a security issue to hide it.
I get the other stuff can be used for layers of security, but SSID hiding both violates the 802.11 standard and makes it easier to compromise your devices.

Hidden SSID is a security risk. It makes your devices easier to compromise.

They’re awful.
I’ve actually been deploying pfSense+Ubiquiti for family now.

Let’s run through them:

Well, I don’t heat my basement anymore, that’s for sure. Useful in winter, costly in summer. However, with the way Indiana does their electric rates, it is actually pretty cheap. I know other people that don’t open the windows to their homes and don’t have 2kw of electronics that pay more for power.

I’m full time work

I know exactly what you’re talking about.

Comcast Business Class. Found a package that was going to be the same price as paying my overages on residential now that they meter (I use 1.2-1.8TB per month), and I’m paying $15/mo over that for the statics. I run some VPNs for a few people (both businesses and friends that go to countries with filters), do some

I’ve done this for years as well.
There are 4 SSIDs at home. 3 are encrypted, one is open for all.
The one open for all has a separate IP address externally, and a basic DNS-based filter. (I have 5 static IPs)
If the cops ask about that IP, I can easily demonstrate that guests get a different IP from my home users, and

I came here to post that. *applause*

That is exactly why the other maesters didn’t do the procedure Sam did.
He was either very lucky, or scared out of his mind and was very, VERY careful. As he said, he followed the directions.
From what the main dude was saying, it appears others have attempted it and got themselves infected, or the read the procedure

That sounds fascinating, thank you!
I have a feeling it will also deal with another one of my irritants: the entire concept of “American English”.

This is why I don’t study language. There are no rules.

The headline should be corrected. The TSA is not telling people not to bring loaded guns to the airport, but simply not to bring them through security.
In most states (including California, surprisingly), it is completely legal for someone that can otherwise carry a concealed firearm to do so inside the unsecured parts

Carrying a chambered pistol is the current accepted practice and what is taught in training today, both for police and civilians that carry.
Most modern pistols don’t even have an external safety switch. It is impossible for the gun to fire without the trigger being pulled, so therefore, the only safety needed is a

Any guidelines around work attire should be gender neutral.
If garments are not allowed to expose the skin on your legs, fine. No shorts, no skirts, no dresses.
No exposed feet? Fine. No sandals, no shoes where you can see the feet at all.
Or: We could look at our station when working, and make eye contact with people

The FDA is a federal agency and subject to the laws of the country.
Even 25 years ago, there likely wasn’t strong enough public opinion to support the FDA doing this without Congress being urged to make an exception.
Now, though, I think they can do it.

While I’m amazed at your very efficent packing (and very good on-topic LifeHacker article), this...
