3) How did that work out for Blackberry? They basically invented the smartphone market and dominated among early adopters. Once the market was established major consumer electronics manufacturers like Apple and Samsung came in and crushed them. Blackberry went from market leader to basically dead in 5 years.

The devil is in the details - or the exact wording of the statement. VW certainly is going to design new engines and continue to sell them for years to come.   However they will almost certainly be hybrids of some fashion - from 48V to PHEV.

There are no laws is the USA governing collection of vehicle data. Manufacturers can collect whatever data they want and sell it to anyone they like.

I’ve signed up for Oregon’s OReGO fee per mile program for 5 years.

I disagree.  Fuel economy is largely irrelevant to the purpose of fuel or mileage taxes - funding transportation infrastructure. We all take up room on the roads and people that drive more should pay more.

Your number is only passenger cars and excludes CUVs, minivans, SUVs and trucks.

If we use 2019 numbers (COVID screwed 2020) BMW sold 47,827 3-series and 18,621 4-series in the USA.     They should be combined because the BMW 4 series used to be the 3-series coupe and convertibles.

When I was a manufacturing engineer for dashes 10 years ago Australia and Japan had different dashes due to different crash standards. (There were 6 versions globally)

A per mile tax gives the incentive to drive less.

I live in Portland, Oregon. The entire state rezoned in 2019. Single family zoning was banned and anything formally zoned for single family can now be built as up to a quadplex.

I’m guessing you don’t live in a dead GM town in Michigan with a median household income of $30,000 a year.

While I agree real estate prices are regional - increase prices aren’t limited to the coasts.

My wife and I bought a duplex last summer. The first thing our new property manager did was raise the rent from $525 to the market rate of $700 a month - a 33% increase. The vacancy was filled in 2 weeks with a dozen people wanting to rent it.
