If you look from Felicity to Alias, and from Alias to Lost, and almost Alias/Lost to Fringe (more so Alias I guess in this case), it's nice to see the recurring themes/ideas/characters between all of them, even if on the surface they

I think they were just expecting a different kind of movie / was mentally prepared for something else and Nolan didn't deliver that. Through no fault of Nolan.
