I really think this is a good point- there’s got to be a real fear that, if one of the writers has a character say something that’s mistaken for something offensive, the internet pushback will be swift and vengeful. So yeah, they need to hire more diverse writers as well as actors!!

It’s like they forgot that TV shows hire consultants all of the time.

Many white execs give stupid excuses like, “I wouldn’t be able to do justice to a ____ character because I might accidentally write something offensive!” Ugh. Just write her/him as a freakin’ person. It shouldn’t matter if the CW is partially owned by CBS, because its shows air on an entirely different channel with entirely different ratings. CBS doesn’t get credit for content they dump off on the CW instead of canceling (See: Supergirl) just because there’s a tangential relationship between the companies.

Wait. You mean to tell me the white guy in charge doesn’t think the all white casting team making decisions that lack diversity is a barrier to diversity? Because they’ve been working together so well making those same decisions year after year. They’re working really hard to change things, you guys.

Jesus, they act like it’s so hard to find writers that will write stuff that is diverse. But, I spent a good many years trying to get material sent up. And, it was good, creative, diverse and different. But, it isn’t what they want.

All they literally have to do is cast non-white people in roles. They don’t have to “BE LATINO” or “BE ASIAN”—they can just “BE GOOD ACTORS” that happen to be non-white. CBS fucking sucks.
