Subaru is in continuous growth, so their workers get fat bonuses on top of the base salary. Ford, not so much.

I’d be curious to compare the employee benefits/wages of their plants vs a Ford Plant. You could instantly cut out whatever percentage of pay goes to union dues and that wouldn’t change the employee’s take home dollars.
